چکیده

Although the clinical relationship between periodontitis and diabetes mellitus (DM) is well established, few investigations have focused on the immunoinflammatory responses in sites with periodontitis in subjects with DM. Because of the potential association between periodontitis and diabetes, the aim of this study was to examine the serum levels of IL17 in diabetic and non-diabetic rats with experimental periodontitis before, and after non-surgical periodontal treatment, in an attempt to establish a correlation between diabetes and periodontitis utilizing IL-17 as a marker. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 60 male rats, which were divided randomly into 2 equal groups, each with 30 rats. In the first group, only experimental periodontitis was induced, while in the second group both experimental periodontitis and diabetes were induced. Estimation of the serum levels of IL-17 was done using the ELIZA technique. Results showed that non-surgical periodontal therapy tended to reduce serum IL-17 levels in diabetic and non-diabetic periodontitis groups. Conclusion: In view of the very high prevalence of both periodontitis and diabetes and their potentially severe repercussions, inflammatory cytokines such as IL-17 may substantiate increased risk of the systemic inflammatory burden.

Inflammatory markers in gingival crevicular fluid of periodontitis patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus according to glycemic control: A pilot study

BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and periodontitis are inflammatory conditions with a bidirectional association. This pilot study aimed to evaluate whether T2DM and glycemic control interfere in inflammatory markers profiles in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in periodontitis patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS Fourteen diabetic periodontitis patients were enrolled in this study, seven ...

Effects of Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy on Gingival Crevicular Fluid Levels of Interleukin-17 and Interleukin-23 in Patients with Periodontitis: A Clinical Trial

Background and Aim: Considering the critical role of inflammatory responses in periodontal disease, knowledge about the immune system and cytokines seems nec-essary. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of IL-23 and IL-17 in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patients with chronic and aggressive periodontitis, before and after non-surgical periodontal therapy. Materials and Methods:...

The aim of the study was to compare the serum levels of adiponectin and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in insulin-treated diabetic rats with or without periodontitis. Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 2 groups (20 rats each): a) insulin-treated diabetic group (control, DI) and b) insulin-treated diabetic periodontitis group (test, DIP). Diabetes was induced, and insulin treatment was init...
